Dori Stevens, CEO

Dori is a compassionate caregiver and a bold leader who prioritizes patient safety and emphasizes communication with patients and their families. Her open and honest leadership focusses on building from individuals’ strengths. Her goal is to maintain and expand Sutter Delta’s sense of community and the teamwork that creates high employee and physician engagement, which translates into top-notch patient care.

Dori has 27 years’ health care experience in California and Hawaii. She joined Sutter Health in 2005 as director of nursing at Sutter Delta. In that role, she significantly reduced turnover among nurse managers and increased performance on standard measurements of physician satisfaction with nursing and employee engagement.

Dori was promoted to chief nursing executive in 2006, bringing further quality and affordability gains and improvements in employee and physician satisfaction. Delta received the HealthGrades’ Emergency Award for Excellence — ranking the Emergency Department among the top 5 percent in the nation from 2010 to 2013.

As chief nursing executive, she worked to shorten inpatient length of stay, improve nurse productivity and reduce injuries to nurses related to patient mobility. Sutter Delta also created an innovative free standing observation unit.

Before joining Sutter Health, Dori spent five years at Desert Regional Medical Center, a 398-bed acute care hospital in Palm Springs, where she was the director of critical care services. There she was responsible for four intensive care units, including trauma.

She also worked at St. Francis Medical Center in Honolulu as their administrative executive for the transplant and critical care service lines and was ICU manager at Brotman Medical Center in Culver City, California. Dori has an undergraduate degree in nursing and a graduate degree in business administration. She is a 2008 graduate of Sutter Health’s Leadership Academy.
