Bob Harrison Receives 2014 Ida Cannon Award

Bob Harrison, Sutter Delta Medical Center dietary food managerThe social work team at Sutter Delta Medical Center wishes to recognize one individual member who embodies social work values in their everyday work by awarding the Sutter Delta Medical Center Ida M. Cannon Award to Bob Harrison.

About Ida M. Cannon

Ida M. Cannon was responsible for establishing the first social work department in a hospital in the United States and the first to recognize the importance of the social and psychological aspects of an illness.

As a hospital social worker, Cannon’s front-line clinical casework included patients and families dealing with tuberculosis, venereal diseases, industrial accidents and single parenthood. She began each case with a thorough investigation of the patient’s health, family life, financial situation, living conditions and capacity for work.

For her generation, Cannon was the symbol of hospital social service. Even today she is celebrated for her remarkable contributions to medical social work. Previous Ida M. Cannon Award recipients include: Christine Smith, FNP (2008); Debbie Spence, R.N. (charge nurse third floor) (2009); Pharmacy Department (2010); Lee Riley, EVS (2011); and Lisa Innis, N.P., hospitalist (2012).

Bob Harrison 2014 Ida M. Cannon Recipient

The social work team wishes to recognize Bob Harrison as the recipient of the 2014 Ida M. Cannon Award. Bob Harrison is SDMC’s dietary food manager and has been with SDMC since 1990. He enjoys music, reading, traveling and cooking. His favorite food is steak, and his favorite dessert is pecan pie. Bob also loves animals. He has two dogs and one cat.

Thank you Bob Harrison for embodying the social work values of service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person.
