Antioch Group Practice Expanding Thanks to Philanthropic Support

Patients will soon have more medical staff close to home.

In 2015 Sutter East Bay Medical Foundation (SEBMF) served 33,000 patients who call east Contra Costa County home. In 2016 that number grew by 10 percent and this year it is on track to grow by another 10 percent. Accommodating such growth is at the heart of a $6.5 million dollar gift awarded to SEBMF by the generous donors to Better Health East Bay – a Sutter Health philanthropic foundation supporting Sutter’s East Bay network of doctors and hospitals.

“As the communities of Antioch, Brentwood, Byron, Discovery Bay, Knightsen, Oakley, and Pittsburg grow so too does their need for outpatient physician services” said Jim Hickman, CEO of Better Health East Bay. “Patients here have struggled to get access to timely and appropriate outpatient primary and specialty care – and they shouldn’t have to.”

The gift from Better Health East Bay will fund an extensive renovation and expansion of the Antioch care center, located in the Bluerock Center at 4053 Lone Tree Way.

“By building out unused floors we can create 30 additional exam rooms, and offices for five new primary care physicians and seven specialists” said Dr. Lou Wu, SEBMF Medical Director. Construction of the additional rooms and offices will not interfere with current clinical care on other floors, and is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2018.

“I am thrilled that Bluerock will be adding 12 new physicians next year” said Dori Stevens, CEO of Sutter Delta Medical Center. “Early and easy access to primary care physicians and specialists is the best thing we can offer our community to support health maintenance and reduce the need for emergent and urgent visits.”

Stay posted for construction updates and to welcome the new physicians in 2018!
